Things To Do In Edmonton

The city of Edmonton is a fun filled location throughout the year. However, a visit during the summer months when the city is bustling with festivals is something that shouldn't be avoided if possible. Most of these festivals are celebrated in the central and the downtown regions of the city or at the City Hall. Nevertheless, there are also many other things to do. Some of them have been listed below.

Recreational Activities: When coming to recreational activities, there are facilities for biking, walking, skiing etc. Because the city is located in a valley, many parts of the city are covered in forests making it difficult to realize that it is a city. Items to participate in these activities can be bought or rented at one of the many such service providers. Drop in at any of these stores and pick up the required items with a little help from the shopkeepers who know the area well and can provide helpful tips. Biking and skiing maps are easily available at popular spots like the City Hall and the University. The Edmonton Ski and Snow Valley are two prominent places where one can find both artificial and natural snow covers to ski on. Being comparatively easy, these turfs, when sufficient practice has been done, move towards the covers of Banff and Jasper which are more challenging.

Golf: There are a good number of golf courses in Edmonton to choose from. 2 of the most popular courses are located close to downtown (Riverside and Victoria). One may find it difficult to access them unless he has a vehicle for himself. However, this should not be a cause of worry considering the great experience that one can have here. In all, there are more than 70 golf courses located in the region all of which are visited by the locals in plenty.

Music and Theater: A number of arts and theater groups have come in the city and perform live in theaters. Winspear Center for Music is a must visit for those who take interest in acoustics and Citadel Theater for those who prefer large scale life performances. All of these theaters offer something or the other for visitors to enjoy throughout the year.

Sporting Events: Edmonton has its share of amateur and professional sports teams which play at different levels. Stanley Cup for Hockey is almost always won by the Edmonton Oilers. This game is hosted at the Rexall Place which boasts of a seating capacity of over 16,000. Basketball is played at the Grant MacEwan Gymnasium and the city team has won several trophies, the Commonwealth Stadium is where the Edmonton Eskimos have won 13 Gray Cups.

Apart from these, there are casinos, hotels and restaurants that can be visited for leisure purposes. The experience is little less luxury than in the hotels & casinos in downtown Las Vegas, but it comes close! The city is host to some of the finest diners serving delicious cuisines from across the world. One should pay special emphasis on making sure that they visit them all as it would be a shame not to after coming so far.
